The work of the day

Make it your ambition
to lead a quiet life,
to mind your own business
and to work with your hands,
just as we told you,
so that your daily life
may win the respect of outsiders
and so that you will not
be dependent on anybody.

1 Thessalonians 4:11

Saturday was the day set aside to replace some of the old, rotten boards on the corral fence.

Did I mention it was hot.

No...sweltering! It was HOT!

Notice the saggy bottom in the corner? I'll explain later.

Cowboy hats required for shade, not just to look very handsome and manly.

It was a lesson in many things.

My son drove the truck for the first time by himself.

Okay, my husband has taken up running, ya know? He is training for a marathon this fall. He has lost almost 50 pounds since last fall. Wow!
But he won't let go of these old pants of his. Now they are his work pants.

Honey, I love you and am so proud of you, but please My Love...

...it's time to ditch the pants.

Poetry in motion

We are being watched all the time by the little eyes in our households. What do we say to them? How do they see us, really?

My husband found out last month.

For my husband's birthday earlier this month, the boys made him special gifts of their own. T2 (Treasure #2) made him a special book and proudly watched as Papa looked through it.

Look at Papa's beautiful face. He's so blessed.

T1 wrote a poem for him. This was a first for my son. I suggested he try a limerick. A limerick has five lines. The ending of lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme with each other. The ending of lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other.

You know how daunting the blank page is right? I started him out. I said, "Why don't you just start with My Papa is...and go from there?"

He agonized for an hour or so, but when he was finished, he had a smile on his face. He couldn't wait to give it to Papa. You can see how excited he was to have Papa reading it for the first time. It was touching.

He decorated it with very noble artwork, very fitting for a poem about his honorable Papa. It won a blue ribbon in the county fair.

My Papa

My Papa is kind, extremely kind to me.

We love each other very much do we.

He teaches me to help whenever it is needed.

His voice I have always heeded.

A very honorable man is he.

A father's care

I love these pictures. I took them a week ago (or so). To me they are beautiful. They show so much.

...a father's care...

...a son's admiration and desire to be 'like Papa'.

They are both growing into their roles.

My husband is becoming the father he never knew or had. He is busy giving our sons something he never had...a mentor.

Someone to show them the way to manhood.

And to me he is very manly.

Go here for more on how I feel about him.
