It's berry season.I haven't gone anywhere to pick, but I have been making more of an effort to pick regularly from our berry bushes in order to preserve what we have.
There is just nothing like a yummy berry cobbler or pie with vanilla ice cream for a special dessert on a Sunday.
I have been washing them and then freezing them on a tray first, then transferring them to smaller quart size ziploc bags. If you have a special recipe you want to use them for and know how much you will be needing you could freeze them in special portion sizes so you don't have to measure, just dump.
I have a special berry-picker helper. She collects the dried berries that are old and shriveled and tosses them to our chicken friends who are always standing patiently and hopefully by waiting for 'a little something'.
I made Pioneer Woman's cobbler using this recipe. I highly recommend this version but vanilla ice cream is a must!
Enjoy!
